ABOUT
Writing a book is a great way to share your insight and expertise with the world, become a thought leader in your field, and simply connect with others by sharing your story. Whatever your motivation for writing a book, I’m here to help you perfectly capture who you are and what you know.
I’ve always been an avid reader, and I’ve enjoyed writing ever since I first put “chubby” pencil to wide-ruled paper. So, it’s not surprising that I’ve built a career that has allowed me to do a whole lot of both.
In my 18-year career, I’ve put my writing and editing skills to work for nonfiction book authors, B2B and B2C corporations, business owners, professional speakers, and even political candidates. I’ve worked at a boutique PR firm that specializes in representing nonfiction book authors, an SEO-focused digital marketing agency, and as a freelance copywriter and editor.
I have extensive experience ghostwriting and editing nonfiction books and working on their promotional campaigns. I’ve also ghostwritten and edited other long-form content, including bylined articles, white papers, and case studies, and I’ve written book promotional materials, such as press releases, media pitches, and web content.
As an editor, my primary goal is to provide the honest feedback necessary for you to achieve your book writing goals. I always strive to be a straightforward, but empathetic, collaborator. Whether you plan to self-publish or seek a traditional publisher, I can help.
At my core, as an editor, I’m a grammar nerd, a thoughtful planner, and a lifelong learner.
🤓 As a grammar nerd, I’m experienced in both AP Style and the Chicago Manual of Style. I have an eye for detail and a good feel for what rules should be followed and what rules can (occasionally) be broken to add a little creative flair. I’m an Oxford comma believer, but a supportive ally to those who aren’t.
💡As a thoughtful planner, I like to have all my t’s crossed and i’s dotted, literally and figuratively. I take pride in my ability to meet deadlines and deliver on detailed tasks. I can also change course effectively when a project calls for it, all while maintaining open communication and a good sense of humor.
📖 As a lifelong learner, I’m a curiosity-driven, research nerd and voracious reader. I love to ask why and how about unfamiliar concepts and information and then dive deeper through further research. I bring this curiosity to all my projects, personal and professional. It drives me to engage deeply with information on a creative and analytical level.
One of my favorite things about nonfiction book editing is having the opportunity to learn other people’s stories and the honor of helping them guide others by sharing their knowledge and lived experience. From start to finish, I’ll be focused on helping you produce a book that perfectly showcases your passion and expertise.
That’s my professional experience in a nutshell. But finding the right editor for your book is about finding someone you can connect with, so here’s a little more about me as a person.
As noted, I’m a lifelong bookworm. Some of my favorite fiction authors are Ali Smith, Toni Morrison, Zadie Smith, Jane Austen, and Carson McCullers. Some of my favorite nonfiction authors are Isabel Wilkerson, Patrick Radden Keefe, Roxane Gay, Joan Didion, and Susan Orlean. My absolute favorite book of all time is… always changing. Right now, I would probably say it’s Ali Smith’s Seasonal Quartet Series (which, yes, is cheating because it’s four books!)
I’m a queer, intersectional feminist and a proud lefty—in handedness and values. In addition to reading and writing, in my downtime, I love to hang out in Asheville’s amazing parks with my dog, Babe, do a weekly trivia night with my team, Full Bush League, and travel far, wide, and close to home—learning as much as I can from the people I meet along the way.
I have a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’m a Tar Heel born and bred based in Asheville, NC.
